Fix-It Friday Instructions

Are You Still Hosting Fix-It Friday?

This is one of our most frequently asked questions now.  :)  Yes, we are still hosting Fix-It Friday….but, after sitting down and trying to figure out a way to make our weekly schedule a little less hectic, we decided to host it more informally in our FREE I Heart Faces Community each week instead of here on our blog.  It’s still great fun and it’s still a great way to interact with one another and to learn some amazing photo editing tricks!

Don’t despair though, we will still be hosting FIF here on our blog from time-to-time as well.  It will be a run a little bit differently in a way that we think will be more meaningful to everyone who participates.

During the times when FIF is hosted in our free community, you’ll be able to download the high-res image over there.  Here are a few links to past FIF’s we’ve hosted there:

During the times that we host FIF here on our blog, you’ll be able to head over to our Flickr group and download the Fix-It photo to your computer each week.  If there is a RAW file available during certain weeks, you will only be able to download it in our free community.  Flickr does not allow RAW images to be uploaded to their system.

Fix-It Friday Tips

  • Take your time and use the photo editing program that you own (it doesn’t have to be Photoshop!) to make beautiful changes to this photo (anything you want…just fix it up as wonderfully as you can.) Then post this photo on your blog. You can post as many versions of this photo in your post as you’d like. Feel free to go to town and have fun with it! (This is not a contest…this is just for fun and to learn more about how to edit photos.)
  • When we host a linky here on our blog, make sure that you enter the permalink to your blog post (non-permalinks are deleted and then you will have to reenter your link correctly.) For your FIF linky name, you can even put your name and the name of the photo editing program you used:  Linky Name Example: Angie – PS CS3
  • If you have the time, we highly recommend that you list the photo editing program that you used to enhance the photo and step-by-step instructions as to how you fixed your photo. The other participants really enjoy this!
  • After you do all that, head back to our website and link your post into our special FIF Linky Tool (you can grab our FIF graphic below to use in your post if you’d like.) It will be wonderful to see what you all come up with for this photo!

{Please, please, please don’t link in any other photos to the weekly FIF Linky Tool. These Linky Tools are there only for the use of those who decide to play along with our weekly Fix-It Friday photos.}

The FIF Linky Tool is always kept open on our website for several days, so you should have plenty of time to fix up the photo and still be able to enter it for everyone to see.

We also now have a special FIF Flickr group set up where you can share your edits as well!  Add your photos here.

Commenting

Our contributors spend hours every week preparing their fixes to be unique, creative and informative for our participants. We ask that Fix-It Friday participants please leave a comment for them in the comments section below our Fix-It Friday post. Your kind words mean the world to them and really make the work they put into this feature so worth it to them!

Be sure to visit several posts in our linky and leave comments for participants as well!

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE – PLEASE READ!

Effective June 2010

Unfortunately, we need to let all of you know about a big change that we will be making concerning future FIF photos that we feature here on I Heart Faces.

We have recently learned of a copyright infringement concerning a photo that was used for a past FIF. The original photographer of that particular photo found her image being used in the sample products of a digital download that was listed for sale on eBay.

We have always had information about copyright policies posted in several different locations on our blog and we would hope that everyone realizes that no one is able to use another photographer’s photo for their own personal or commercial use without the express written consent of the original photographer.

Since we have heard of this issue though, we regret to inform everyone that we will no longer accept outside submissions for future FIF’s. If you already submitted a photo to be used for FIF, we will not be using it now. Beginning immediately, we will only be using photos that we (Angie and Amy) have taken ourselves or photos that our official contributors give us permission to use.

To be very clear here, we provide a high-res image for everyone to download to use as a way to better their photo editing skills during that particular Fix-It Friday only. You are not being given permission to act like this photo was taken by you and then turn around and use the photo for your own personal, commercial or financial gain. Only the original photographer has the right to do that.

We are sorry that we won’t be able to feature any of you in this way any longer, but we hope you understand why we feel that we must take this step. If any of you ever have one of your photos used illegally, you can check out our Resources Page for more information on the steps you can take to correct a situation like this. We would also suggest talking to a lawyer to learn more about how to protect your rights as a photographer.

Above all…we encourage everyone in our community and anyone who stops by here to visit to please, please, please respect the rights of all the other photographers involved on our blog. It is extremely unethical to use another photographer’s photo without their express written consent to do so.
