Fix-It Friday #63 – Susan Keller’s Contribution

Written by:  Susan Keller from Susan Keller Photography

Wow, Angie.  Can I just say? … you must have a waaaay steadier hand than I!   I can’t even begin to tell you how blurry my image would be if I used a 200mm lens with only 1/40th second shutter speed!  It would be bad.  But yours totally isn’t.  Your image is not totally tack sharp, but with this image with the wind in the hair and the natural action-blur, it all works.  And the girly-friendship moment?  Precious.

Software Used:  Lightroom 3 (LR) & Photoshop CS3 (PS)
Actions/Presets/Textures Used:  Totally Rad (TRA),  Red Leaf Studio (RLS),  Shana Rae Florabella Textures & Actions

Shana generously shared her gorgeous new action set (Luxe) with me, and I thought the new actions would perfectly complement this week’s FIF image…

1.  In LR I used the recover slider to bring back lost detail in the white dress.
2.  In PS, I applied FB Luxe Mink and tweaked all the layers.  Shana designs her actions with all the layers left unflattened, clearly labeled, and super simple & quick to customize to the individual image.
3.  The only thing I added on top of her spectacular b/w was a high-pass sharpening and a quickie crop back in LR.

1.  I love the sweet nostalgic vintage feel of this.  I again used FB Luxe Mink, opacity 55% (I used Mink thru the “Test them All” action to be able to turn the opacity down for the desaturated look).
2.  High pass sharpen and crop in LR.

1.  FB Luxe London.  Tweaked layers.
2.  TRA Slice like a Ninja to sharpen.
3.  Crop in LR.

1.  FB Luxe Gypsy.  Tweaked layers.
2.  RLS Light Leak action.
3.  TRA Slice like a Ninja sharpen.
4.  no crop, because I wanted to keep more landscape for the light leak effect.

I totally love a great roadtrip adventure with my dudes, or a cozy afternoon curled up with a good book.  “Reality” tv totally sucks me in.  I prefer my chocolate to be semi-sweet and my Diet Coke to have a squirt of root beer in it.  Photography makes my heart sing and waterskiing leaves me sore & limping but deeply satisfied.
