I Heart Faces Photo Challenge Winners | Enjoying Life

This month’s “Enjoying Life” Photo Challenge focused on all the small moments that make life so much fun.  We loved seeing the creativity of all the photos that were entered!

Special thanks to this week’s Guest Photographer Judge, Kelle Hampton from Enjoying The Small Things.  She really put her heart into choosing the winners from this month’s challenge and we are thrilled to show them off to our entire community now!

First Place: Bonnie Iris Photography

Kelle wrote: This image uses the element of reflection brilliantly, and there is so much about it that I love. It definitely tells a story and evokes feeling—this little boy is tickled at the sight of his reflection in the car, and I couldn’t help but be tickled for him. The composition is perfect—the angle, the focus, the sliver of car at the left to complete the story. The fence adds the perfect backdrop, and the color—that pop of red and periwinkle—add wonderful contrast. This photo is interesting, adorable and draws you right into the moment.

Second Place: Spencer Home

I absolutely love this photo. I love an image that leaves you wanting to know more. What are they doing? Why are they smiling? There are so many elements in this photo that grab your eye as well—the textures of wood floor and shingles and the colors and patterns of each little girl’s outfit. This photo captures emotion so well—so much light-hearted happiness in this one image.

Third Place: Holly Stanley

This photo is rich with feeling, capturing friendship, listening (love that you can tell a couple of the women are talking), relaxing (a few drinks scattered on the table) and nightfall perfectly. I love that it was taken from a distance which allows the image to be framed by the beautiful lights and fabric canopy at the top.

Fourth Place: Crystal Belle Photography

A beautiful story-telling shot, this image is composed so well, combining light and color beautifully. The soft colors of the kitchen and clothing contrast nicely with the “pop” of bolder colors in the lower right quandrant. And I love the story told by the composition of the image—this little girl is crossing into independence, able to crack eggs on her own and yet there are hands ready and willing to help if she needs it. That’s what motherhood is all about, and this photo captures it beautifully.

Fifth Place: A Million Sighs

The light in this photo is beautiful, capturing this woman’s expression and highlighting the most important elements of the image. While she is looking straight at the camera, the photo still suggests this was a candid shot—like the photographer happened to catch her as she grabbed these doughnuts and ran. And the little unnoticed details add so much to the image as well—the pops of red in the back, the Krispy Kreme logo, and I couldn’t help notice that little writing “Happy All Around” which is exactly what this photo is about.

Sixth Place: Kate T Parker

This image is simply the essence of summer. A group of girlfriends, a hot afternoon and a moment of finding heat relief transformed into summer fun. The expressions on the girls’ faces are priceless, and the photo allows you to almost feel what they are experiencing. The brick pattern adds interest and the choice of black and white makes this photo a bit more timeless.

Seventh Place: Dana Suggs Photography

This photo drew me in immediately—the softness, the light, the colors. It’s obviously a completely candid capture, and there are some great story-telling elements in it—setting, characters and plot. A little summer mischief was underway, and just when I had concluded that this photo was indeed beautiful and emotionally evocative, I caught a little humor in it too—the dog weaseling his way through the fence.

Eighth Place: Dharma Blue

The angle on this photo is great—a little height to offer a different perspective. The softness in this photo makes it almost look like a painting. I love the sun spots in the corner, the smoothness of the sand between rough waves and sand footprints, and the motion—arms swinging, legs a skippin’. A great shot.

Ninth Place: Elle Snaps

Sparkler photos aren’t the easiest to capture, and this one is so well done—a great contrast of light and dark. The light beautifully draws attention to the subject in this photo, this little girl’s profile. You can feel her wonder and happiness, and her pajamas add to the laid back feel of this image—just another summer night, having fun.

Tenth Place: Pdx Momma

The palette of colors complementing each other in this photo creates a beautiful soft tone, highlighting the emotion visible from these subjects—love, calm, respect (the little boy’s eyes looking up at the gentleman—be still my heart!). I love the composition and lower angle, and the light just draws you right in.

Wow, I am truly shocked and so honored to be among such talented photographers. And to be chosen by someone whose own work moves me so much is even more an honor! By the way, the child in the red shirt is my little boy (not girl), and he certainly does enjoy life to the fullest!
