Facebook recently launched the new Timeline for Facebook Pages. We visited our I Heart Faces Facebook Timeline preview this morning and wanted to give you a quick run down of the changes.
If you have a Facebook business page, you can preview your new Timeline page from now until March 30, 2012. The preview is private, only you will be able to see it. We don’t recommend publically switching over just yet as there might be more changes!
Facebook will automatically update your page on March 30th. So here are some Timeline Facebook Page changes you might want to know about before the 30th.
The Timeline is Your Default Page
If you have a welcome page or other landing page, you can not set it as the default page. Now the Timeline is the default.
Cover Image
You can add a Timeline Cover Image now. The size is 851×315 pixels. You can edit this photo at anytime, so start designing it now.
Custom Apps Will Still Work
You can customize the images for your apps, but only able to highlight a few. So choose wisely.
Highlighted Photos
So far as we can tell, one randomly selected photo will be highlighted. Make sure you have only your best images in your albums. Hopefully you can choose just one album to be highlighted. We’ll know more when we try it out.
Pinned Post
You can control what posts are seen first by anchoring one to the top of your page. The anchored post will stay at the top of your page for up to 7 days.
The anchor icon looks like a small yellow bookmark. Curious that Facebook would call their bookmarked posts “pins”, with the popularity of Pinterest and all. Hmmmm?
Messages
Customers and fans will now have the option to message you directly.
This could be a good or bad thing. We’re not sure? If you have a very large audience like us, that means a lot more time will be spent on Facebook or hiring someone to help go through the messages. You do have the option to turn off direct messaging if you’d like to keep email through your website.
One new Timeline feature we do really like is that you can can easily comment on posts by others.
So if you write about I Heart Faces on your wall and tag us, anyone can comment from either page. Before you could comment from our page, but you had to click “view post”. Now there is more sharing and communication going on that is much easier. We like that!

Facebook recently announced Timeline for fan Pages. Here's a quick guide to what to watch for. http://t.co/OjB6DStU v @kehblog
I just switched the other day to timeline for my fanpage and I also noticed that I can’t seem to access the section that had recommendations left by fans. But perhaps, I am just not seeing it?

I wasn’t too happy about landing pages going away but after finding some workarounds like linking your old landing page to the facebook icon on your website will also work. There are other ways to encourage people to like your facebook page too. Need to get to work on those now. Liking all the other changes.

Unfortunately, if you had a Pagemodo tab, I don’t think you’ll be able to use that any more. I believe that you’re also not really allowed to promote your business in the cover image.
Thanks for the info! Of course, I JUST started a Facebook page about a week ago, so I got to learn how to do it twice. I kind of like the timeline cover, though. Makes it feel a little more like a landing page.

Anyone else cheesed off about the money they may have spent on Facebook profile badges and landing spaces?? I wish I hadn’t bought them now.
I’m pretty sure some bulletin board software has been calling “stickied” posts “pinned” for a good while now.
I don’t like that FB changes things so often; it means I have to spend half my life just learning FB all over again. And I REALLY don’t like that apparently it will no longer be possible to show fans and non-fans two different main pages.
But it is what it is.
I am not that used to Timeline of Facebook. I need more time to be able to absorb the changes.

Have you switched your page to the Timeline format? Helpful hints right here, thanks to I Heart Faces. http://t.co/ChxwNk2k
Doh! I wish I saw your blog before I impulsively went ahead and upgraded my patturnstudio FB page to timeline! It’s going to take a bit of adjusting, but the weird thing I noticed was I tried to post a “share” on one of my photos from an existing album. It didn’t seem to come up in my timeline though. So I did it again. Weirdly I still couldn’t see it. Then one of my friends commented, so I figured SHE at least could see it. But it wasn’t until I switched back to my personal profile page, that I could see it in my newsfeed – twice!! Errrgh I hate it when repeats like that happen. But now I can’t delete the extra one. Frustrating : (

I’m not too happy about the changes yet–so far I wish I could just add a cover image and comment on other’s posts. The pinned post sounds promising/interesting though. Sigh…

Thanks Andrea. Yes, I meant special landing pages were gone from being a default. You could still link to a FB welcome page from a website. Will edit that in the post.
Well, now I’m glad I never hired anyone to create a facebook landing page for me! LOL Thanks for sharing this info!

There is a way to disable messages on your Facebook page. I don’t have as big of audience, but I know that as it grows, I would rather keep my contact going through my website, or contact form that directs to my email.
The Welcome Pages aren’t gone. Any apps you have are still there, you just can’t set them as the default landing page.

The term, “put a pin in it” has been around much longer than pintrest
Thanks for the rest of the info though.
i *think* that the highlighted photo is the latest one you’re tagged in. so you can kind of control that. i’m not sure though!
