Photography Studio Featured on I Heart Faces

Welcome to the first installment of our Featured Photography Studio Series. Some of our favorite photographers are blessed to work in amazingly inspiring photography studios, and we wanted to share that as a way to inspire all of us. Today we’ll be taking a peek inside Luminosity Photography and Design‘s beautiful space.

“To love what you do and feel that it matters – how could anything be more fun?” –Katherine Graham

It was evident from an early age that sisters, Stephanie and Tammy, had an eye and love for photography. Throughout their lives, they enjoyed taking pictures as a hobby. This developed a deep appreciation in both of them for God’s creation. The Spring of 2007, just five years ago, marks the humble beginnings of their very own photography business, Luminosity Photography & Design.

“We started out with no studio, taking pictures outdoors and sometimes in our living rooms or wherever we could find a place. Although we loved the opportunity to use our gifts, we longed for a place to call home. We would drive around town looking for spaces to rent as our photography studio/office. Everything we found was way out of our meager budget but it didn’t stop us from dreaming and praying.”

In 2011, a friend with a mutual love for photography approached the girls about joining forces to see their business really become a success. He had an old barn on his property that he envisioned renovating to create a custom studio space for them to work. This was where the girls’ dreams began to come to fruition.

The three agreed that this business would be more than just a photography business. Their mutual desire was to enrich the lives of the people they encounter. In fact, the word Luminosity means “to illuminate”. Hence their tag line – illuminating life. From their blog, to their desire for integrity and customer service, to their one-on-one encounters with clients, the girls want to make a difference and enrich the lives of those around them. It is important to them that the studio speaks this same message.

After much prayer and brainstorming, the work began. The barn was transformed from a dark, hay-filled, storage loft to something they describe as nothing short of a dream come true. The beauty of having this large studio also affords the wonderful opportunity to host community and church events. It is important to the girls that this space be enjoyed often and in many unique ways; not just for shooting or viewing photography.

“We come to work each day and, simply stepping in the door, realize how blessed we are. This beautiful workspace inspires us and reminds us of our purpose to be more than just photographers but to actually invest in peoples lives. When you take a look at the space we now work in, we feel it’s important to know that, for us, it wasn’t an effective 5 year plan that brought us to this place (although we don’t criticize planning and know that it is important). It was simple faith in God and the ability to dream a dream.”

I Heart Faces Featured Studio Luminosity Photography & Design is located on a beautiful gated estate in Smyrna, Delaware. The charming surroundings afford the girls many backgrounds and settings for outdoor photo sessions on site. You can follow them on Twitter and Facebook.

I never get tired of seeing your beautiful studio! :) I had not heard this whole story before, though, and I loved it. So awesome how God made your dream a reality and that you are able to use it for more than one purpose.
