This week’s photo challenge is one we loved…autumn is our favorite time of year with the beautiful trees, the cooler temperatures, and the pumpkin spice lattes that appear on the menu of our favorite coffee shops. There’s just something about smelling the firewood in the air, hearing the crunch of leaves beneath our feet, and being all bundled up against the cold. This week’s theme, Autumn Splendor, brought all of those favorites into photography form for us!
Special thanks to this week’s Guest Photographer Judge, Josh Newton…his insight into business was inspirational! If you haven’t read his interview, make sure you take a few moments to do so. He’s a great guy!
1st Place: Jen Prouty
i chose this one as 1st place because of a couple things. first, it made me laugh almost right away and i was immediately able to put myself in the kids shoes. every guy wants to be a super hero and well, the expression the fact that he’s way out in the field with it on… love it. the superman colors are so stark compared to the soft, autumn tones and the boy just really stands out. i really like the composition, use of dead space, and editing. simple, not over the top. but, what i love most was the way it made me feel =)
2nd Place: CM Fotografia
this photo was chosen as second place because of the pure emotion it captures. it doesn’t feel posed, contrived, or something out of the ordinary. the colors are brilliant, the girl is in focus, and her expression is priceless.
3rd Place: Kelli Dee
this photo was chosen as third place because of the focus, lighting, editing, and composition. i’m a SUCKER for backlighting and the long grass in the background lit up the way it is just makes for a very pleasant photo. i think the outfit was picked out well and the editing is simple and pretty. good job!
4th Place: LaTonya Marie
her expression is priceless. i had a really hard time not making this photo one of my top 3, as i think it’s incredible. her eyes, the backlighting, editing, and composition really make this photo stand out.
5th Place: Just Leesha
just a really simple, fall-esque and cute moment captured. i also really enjoy the composition, editing, and the backlighting. love this moment!
6th Place: Melinda Smith
composition, color, expression, outfit, amazing picturesque view, and amazing editing made this an easy pick for the top 10. amazing shot!
7th Place: Up in the Sycamore
i have to admit, i’m not a HUGE fan of suitcases or frames in photos anymore, but this one really caught my eye. i enjoy the pose and the outfits chosen a lot – and the editing is definitely well done. love the tones and colors of this photo and really good job with it!
8th Place: Melanie Weyer
this photo ALMOST made it to the top 3. i had a really hard time not making this photo one of my favorites as her expression almost has this erie, melancholy look to it. REALLY love the field, backlighting, and the composition is interesting. great photo!
9th Place: Mary Nichols
the hat is just AWESOME. and i love everything about it – good use of composition, color, and focus. great work!
10th Place: Kate Suzanne
they are going to love this photo when they’re older… definitely makes you want to be a kid again. really love everything about this photo – the color, editing, composition, focus, and how they’re running away from you. what i love most about this photo however is how it made me feel and what stories it brought to mind when i first saw it. great work!
