My entry is “Camera Shy” and this is the first time I’ve entered the contest. I love this theme and love using props in a photo session. This was a session where I “went all out” on the prop theme. I used an old dust covered mirror, a life sized santa and 2 delightful little girls. This shot is an example of a rare occasion where the image turns out the way I had it planned in my head. :)

I love this theme! The photo I chose is from a recent family shoot that we did in the family’s backyard. Before the shoot, Promise mentioned that her family loves to read together, and loves traveling. We incorporated a blanket they have from some of their travels, vintage suitcases, vintage books, and the cutest little vintage toy train. We all had so much fun with this shoot. We think that baby #2, who will be on his way soon, is going to be welcomed into an amazing family and can’t wait to meet him!

My entry is #189 now! This is my very first entry to iheartfaces. What makes this frog hat special for me, is that it was crocheted with love by my mother-in-law. She makes tons of hats and blankets for our little boy and his bears — but just started making them for my clients . I love her!

so many cute prop images – Im totally inspired!

It rained on our Lemonade stand day…so we had to improvise. But through dedication and inovation…I think it worked!

Photo #267 “Daddy’s helmet”. I thought this was a great way to bring out the family’s personality. It was another creative way to show just how little babies can be :)

I wanted to do something special this week for the theme, but two little ones under two and a trip this past weekend made that impossible. So I added a picture of my now 15 month old when she was 9 months old wearing a little froggie hat, and matching froggie legg warmers… I loved the lighting and her little smile. titled “erin bremer”..

I love the theme. I often use parasoles as props for little ladies but this little darling is made for it! This image literally takes my breath away :)

I loved the theme this week! I did a shoot w/my cousin and my baby sister just had to step in so I handed her a bright green apple and rest is history!

I don’t tend to use props as I’m very much a “take the subject in it’s natural state” hobby photographer and here in New Zealand we have amazing backdrops with our scenery. I’m not sure if dressups are props but I love this one of Jack as a pink unicorn!

I entered a picture from my first newborn session. While I’m not big on props, I think they have a place sometimes, especially when shooting tiny babies. In this one, I used a funky bowl I borrowed from a friend and one of his mom’s scarves to give it a personal touch. I loved how it turned out!

Oh yea! I was so excited when I saw this theme. You ladies are continuing to come up with great ones.

I was looking for an outfit for my son’s 1-year-photo shoot, I was shopping in Ross and I saw the hat. I knew right then and there what his shoot was going to be like.

I’m a little worried about my entry now that I’ve seen a lot of others. Everyone else has cute props that complement cute people; I have a dark conceptual shoot. It’s Sleeping Beauty the way the Brothers Grimm told it, with her pricking her finger on a drop spindle and bleeding.

What fun! I’m really enjoying browsing through these entries. I entered a photo of a darling little girl I photographed recently in front of a prop of pink fabric ribbons (#156 now). I’m new to props–this was one of my first experiments–but I love the color it brought to the shoot!

I am a HUGE fan of props. More often than not, I will buy the prop and then style / create a session to fit the prop. I love planned theme-heavy sessions so props play a huge role in that for me. In my submission, I used an old wooden crate that I fashioned into a lemonade stand featuring a handwritten sign, green gingham table cloth, collander filled with lemons and pitcher full of lemonade. The girls photographed had outfits that complimented the theme…it was a such a fun shoot!

Mine is “Daddy’s Tractor”. Our youngest is obsessed with tractors. He knows when his Daddy is going to cut grass and has a fit if he can’t ride with him while he cuts. This picture was taken one morning when he had his Daddy’s hat that he wears while he cuts grass. He ran outside and sat on the tractor and wouldn’t get off for anything. I loved that he put on his Daddy’s hat and just had to wear it.

Entry 104 is mine. My maternity client wanted photos to share with her deployed husband so I asked her to have him take a picture of his profile to make it look like he was kissing her belly. This is one of those photos that still just breaks my heart and I love how it turned out.

My photo (big brown hat) is of my 19 month old son. Normally he hates hats and will take them off instantly. This big old brown hat though he will wear and sometimes he’ll stand still long enough to be photographed in it!

Mine is pretty simple…. After my daughter’s baptism party, she finally got past the screaming her head off stage and fell asleep in her baby carrier. (Wearing a green onesie, not her beautiful poofy white dress.) Her godfather sent us home with balloons, which he tied to the carrier. At the same time, we both realized what a great picture that would make :)

I’ve entered a photo of my newest prop – a parasol – which I love and can’t wait to use more. I need to gather other props together as when I look at the photos here I realise that I have lots of things I could use but don’t. Thanks for the inspiration. I’ll be checking back to view others later.

Loved Butterflies! (was 45) but can’t comment on it unfortunately.

Cheers,
Dot

My website is coming soon, so if you happen to look at it, it’s “under construction”.

My shot was done a few weeks ago with an amazing family! The mother of the baby made the cake herself and thanks to a local thrift store and some paint, the cake stand turned out great! The little chair happened to be in the client’s apartment and we both thought it would look great in the photos, and just the baby’s size. :)

I’m just not a props kinda girl…I know…gasp! I just think the same prop in 25 different families’ photos in the same community just seems very impersonal and redundant. I know I am in the minority on this, but I’m okay with that. To me, less is more…and more is all about the child and his/her precious features. However, that being said, I do love a simple prop that is relative, meaningful and unique to a child or family…something that defines who they are — a favorite hobby, a treasured possession, etc. The photo I entered in this week’s contest is a boy in his dad’s blue vintage truck. The truck was once owned by the woman who raised the dad and he has wonderful memories of it from when he was a boy. The dad restored the truck and now his boys are riding in it. So, this prop has two generations of memories, connection, and relativity. Now THAT’S the kind of prop I love! :)

Sometimes props aren’t exactly what you expected or wanted, but turn out to be something inspiring and loved. My entry is #15 and it’s all about one little dress. That dress has inspired me to consider taking children’s photography in a whole new direction.

Babies are so cute and always perform when you want them too, right? Wrong! The little 9-month-old in my photo was just learning to crawl but of course wouldn’t do so while we were out shooting. Her Oma was feeding her “Puffs” off and on throughout the photo session to keep her happy so I asked for some, laid them down on the bricks, and sure enough she got up and crawled right to me! “Puffs” — the newest rage in baby care — who knew! What a fun challenge and so looking forward to the wonderful variety! Mary
