Post image for Week 37 • Vroom, Vroom Winning Photos!

Wasn’t it fun having Dana Suggs hang out with us as our Guest Photographer Judge this week?  We always enjoy reading her Fix-It Friday tutorials and it was awesome to learn even more about her through her interview.  We had a great time reading through what she wrote about why she LOVED each winning photo so very much.  :)

The “Vroom, Vroom” entries were absolutely fabulous and we know she had a difficult time narrowing them down, but finally decided on these wonderful photos as her favorites…

First Place: Jake Easley
Dana wrote: LOVE LOVE LOVE! It’s just completely satisfying to the senses. It’s full of details! His face is totally priceless….such a MAN! LOL The tattoo peaking out from under his sleeve, his aggressive hold of the wheel, the empty seat next to him because his wife has probably bailed out of the car as he slowed around a corner…..fleeing for her life…..the blurred scene outside the windows. I just can’t stop looking at this photo! It’s BRILLIANT! It’s such a “real” photo! It’s not the “typical” photo where we want to hide our wrinkles or the speed to which we are traveling. ;) It’s get-in-sit-down-hold-on-and shut-up! Grab the wheel and lets ROLL! I love it! My only hope would be this is a MINI-VAN! BAHAHAHAHAHA! I love it! Had to be #1!

Second Place: Heather Nan
We typically see the Senior and his ride. We are all used to seeing this type of Senior portrait photography, but THIS one…..it was just totally different from all the other ones! The perspective is different! He’s not outside the car, he’s inside taking OWNERSHIP of that car. “This is MY ride!” I liked the view of being outside of his world looking in through the window. Totally different. I liked that this one was different. Totally stealing this idea for my next Senior boy session!

Third Place: Melinda Brookshire
I love this one! I love the perspective of it….almost makes you feel like a voyeur, like you just stumbled into their intimate moment. It’s just beautifully executed and not overly processed. The photo was DIFFERENT! Very creative! The composition is wonderful.

Fourth Place: Sunny Keri
The COLORS of this just blew me away! We didn’t take any real vacations growing up, but we did have those “fake-cations” of going to visit relatives in far away states (and not even FUN states like Florida or California or Washington). And this scene was just taken right out of my childhood: back of the stationwagon filled with tons and tons of stuff, squished kids ready for the adventure….chaos, just utter chaos! Joking with my siblings and someone is always clueless as to what is going on. This photo just makes you remember, your eyes travel all over the photo taking it all in, and you are left feeling homesick for your own childhood. Pack up that car, squish those kids in, and GO! :D I love this! Expertly captured!

Fifth Place: SDG Photo
I LOVE this photo!! LOVE it! The little boy and the tractor and the CHICKENS! Be still my heart! I love it entirely! Makes me want to sit on the oversized front porch of this farmhouse and rock in a rocking chair and watch this cute little guy! Maybe sip lemonade in an ice cold glass. Watch the corn grow and forget every care and stress I have. I’m moving here. Maybe put up a tire swing.

Sixth Place: Rik-See
I LOVE this! (Am I saying this for every photo? I feel like I am….) It’s just a SIMPLE, WELL EXECUTED photo! The B&W conversion is flawless! The propeller (is that what it’s called? LOL) is a perfect line to draw your eye from one side of the photo to the other. (Called “Leading lines”…..I know, I’m all smart and stuff!) It’s just clean and simple. Beautiful job!

Seventh Place: eLiving Media
I’m a sucker for a cowboy! (Is that wrong?) I love his shadowed, mysterious face. I love the chaps, I love the weathered look of this photo! It just gives me a calm feeling when I see it. Almost like it doesn’t matter how far we come, life can still be completely simple.

Eighth Place: Cherish Those Moments
This one just makes my heart SOAR! I want to know everything behind this photo! The little boys face and the oversized fireman pants to the IV standing dutifully beside him. I didn’t even catch that right away, but when I did, I teared up a little bit. As a photographer for Inspiration through Art, I encourage everyone to go a little beyond our walls and give back to kids like this. Give their parents lasting memories of adorable little boys in oversized fireman pants and dreams for a long, healthy future!

Ninth Place: April Williams
I love the feeling of this photo! The little lost boy…..(I’m sure he’s not lost LOL), the broken down vehicle perfect for a little boy to dream in, the texture of the metal and the trees behind mixed with the snow….and then the processing on top of it! Man! It evokes emotion all meshed together in one great photograph!

Tenth Place: Life With Kaishon
I was having such a hard time deciding on my last favorite (I could have easily kept going…..I’m just saying….I LOVED these) when my 15 year old walked in and said “he must be riding with YOU, Mom! Looks like a typical kid riding with his mom!” After I was over being insulted ;) we laughed a long time together! It started a nice conversation between my teenage son and I. OK, so this had to be the photo! It IS such a typical scene: either riding with the crazy tattoo driver from above, or a child dreaming of one day being the driver. See? It doesn’t have to be this amazing, perfectly created photo on this million dollar camera….it just has to draw the viewer in, and this did that for me. It started a conversation and drew us in. Didn’t matter if it was a Nikon D700, Canon 5D, or a disposable camera, the end result was the same. We were sucked into this photo.

Each week we (Angie & Amy) like to show off a few of our favorite entries as well! Here are some of the photos that we loved for the “Vroom, Vroom” theme…

If you are willing to buy a house, you would have to get the loan. Furthermore, my mother all the time utilizes a small business loan, which supposes to be really rapid.

At the expense of repeating myself (here and Facebook) I just want to say thank you to everyone! I can’t say thanks enough. So many great entries. I found myself leaving several comments this week on others blogs. Not just a couple, about a dozen :) There were just so many!

Any mention or nomination in a challenge on iheartfaces, from the staff or judges, is a huge honor! Once again, thank you everyone! Not just for the comments and support, but for the shared inspiration.

I love you Dana! In a knew-her-before-she-was-famous way :)

I especially love the comments about each winning photo – because this is just how Dana talks! Feels like sitting down over coffee and laughing your butts off.

Those are AWESOME photos! I don’t envy the judge a bit! Though I happen to totally agree that Kaishon’s photo is one that draws you in and inspires conversation (and laughter!)

Great photos this week, and great judging! Congrats everyone :)
