We enjoyed having Bobby Earle visit with us as the Guest Photographer Judge this week. We find his photography to be so moving and poignant that we knew he’d be perfect for our theme of Photojournalism.
If you get a chance, please click through to these links and read the stories behind the photos. In our opinion, we find their stories to be just as important as the photo that captured the story…amazing, incredible entries this week!
Here are the photos that Bobby chose as his favorites for this week’s theme…
First Place: My Photographic Eye

Bobby wrote: I wish these images weren’t even possible. Hearing the story behind it was heartbreaking. I knew it was a strong, emotionally charged image before I read the story — but reading about it just crushed me. God be with parents who’ve lost children. The image strengthens my belief that cherishing every moment with our loved ones isn’t a cliche — it’s what we all ought to do. Tough to look at, but beautiful.
Second Place: Jessica Lynn

We all have to go — it’s an unquestionable part of life. But exiting this life with the belief that you’re entering a new one? And with all of your loved ones gathered around? This could be seen as a sad image, but I don’t see it that way. Beautiful.
Third Place: The Rad Life

Love the collage of images. I can almost feel them figuring out all the fun that the youngsters have been having
Fourth Place: New Eyedea

I love the idea of this. Just waiting. And waiting at that age feels like FOREVER! Great image.
Fifth Place: Clear Lens Photography

Really like this one, as well. I know the entire story just by the photo
Sixth Place: The Cook Family

I’m a sucker for the military. Greatest keepers of world peace, imo. This documents just one of the many sacrifices our brave men and women go through — and their children.
Seventh Place: Kelly Langner Sauer

I love a good wedding image! Great shot
Eighth Place: Boondock Ramblings

I feel like I’m looking at an old barber who is about to retire after 50 years of cutting hair. I like it.
Ninth Place: sarah.e photography

Touching.
Tenth Place: Behind The Lens

Love it.

Wow! These are all so amazing! I must say though that the grandparents discovering the new age technology that Nintendo Wii has to offer is quite the site!! I got a good chuckle out of it!

Some of these photos brought back memories of my grandfather’s last few days here on Earth and then his burial at veteran’s cemetery. I think that is what photojournalism is supposed to do though–evoke memories, feelings, and thoughts into the viewer.
