I’m assuming that since you’re here at this site, you probably have an interest in photography. Not only that, but many of you also have a blog. If you’re like me, your very first blog utilized one of the many templates offered through Blogger. I started with Minima. Eventually, I changed to Minima Stretch because I wanted my pictures to be larger. I still wasn’t satisfied, because my site never looked “pulled together”.

Eventually, I discovered that there were third party templates that could be used on blogger. That began my search to find a template that could allow the focus of my site to be on my photos.

Whether you desire a template like mine or not, you may find the video in this tutorial useful in helping you learn how to change your template using templates outside of the ones offered by Blogger.

Little warning, before delving into changing your blog, make sure that you save your current blog. The video shows you how to do this. If you don’t save your blog, you cannot go back to the way it was!

Also, whenever you change your blog, all widgets will be lost. That means you might have to do some work to bring back the widgets. Widgets include Blogger widgets as well as 3rd party widgets such as StatCounter, blog buttons, etc. Before making major changes, save all these individual codes so that you can easily add them back.

I have also created a page that shares more in detail
how to customize several areas of your blog design.

Not to confuse you, but I did have one issue with the Photoblog II template. I use free blog authoring software (available only for Windows) called LiveWriter. (By the way, if you haven’t discovered this software yet, go check it out. It is an absolute time-saver!)

I was finding that I couldn’t do anything with my text within LiveWriter like centering and spacing. After communicating with LiveWriter’s excellent customer service representatives, they worked towards troubleshooting the issue which ended up having nothing to do with their software. Their explanation was that some third party software’s coding does not completely mesh with Blogger.

Their fix for this problem is as follows:

1. Go to the HTML code.

2. Find the following code: (Control-F comes in handy here.)

.post-body p {
/* Fix bug in IE5/Win with italics in posts */
margin: 0px 0px 0px 0px;
padding: 3px 0px 3px 0px;
display: inline; /* to fix floating-ads wrapping problem in IE */
height: 1%;
overflow: visible;
}

3. Once you find that code, delete only what is in bold.

display: inline; /* to fix floating-ads wrapping problem in IE */
height: 1%;
overflow: visible;

(Don’t forget that the ending } still needs to be included!)

This simple fix took care of the problem.

Drew

Who is this Drew girl and what makes her an “expert”? Simple answer: I’m Angie’s sister, I own Photoshop Elements and I work for free. Yep, that’s my only qualifications for this job. Hopefully all the newbies out there can appreciate a contributor who doesn’t know it all and isn’t afraid to admit it. Have fun following my Fix-It Fridays and be sure to drop by my blog to say hello!

OH thanks for this explanation. I just sort of stumbled across your blog. I love WLW and have encountered this problem with a new template I installed. Thus I’ve been planning to get rid of the template b/c I love WLW too much not to be able to use it.
