Throughout the year, if you are anything like myself, you find yourself looking back over the past year or so, and wonder where the time has gone. We parents often lament over their children growing up so darn fast, and not being able to remember all the little day to day things that brought us so much joy.
Today, I’d like to suggest picking up your camera, and taking time to capture those very little things you are quickly forgetting. Often folks ask me where I find my inspiration for still images. The answer is simple. I aim my camera at anything I want to understand more fully, and/or remember forever.
From my child’s favorite toys, to the baby shoes that melted my heart. I try to capture them in a unique way, as to forever imprint them in my memories. Storing them away to be called upon on another day.
It amazes me how quickly my sleep deprived brain shoves out the little things to make room for the other little things. When I glance back through my photo archives I find the book my child made me read no less than 417 times in a period of two months. If someone had asked me to simply recall this bit of information, I would have been at a loss, but one glace at this photo, and the memories came rushing in. I’m grateful for that.
A nifty little perk to this adventure is while capturing creative shots of these items, you create an opportunity to learn more about your camera’s capabilities. Try something new. Don’t worry about special photo shoots if you don’t have the time. Choose to take photos when your child is playing with something important to them.
Your tired mind, tender heart, and the reminiscent old person inside will thank you!
